We
believe the Bible teaches that it is by grace that we
are saved, through our response of faith at the time of
baptism, believing that Jesus is the Son of God, that He
died to take the penalty of our sins on Himself, and
that He was raised from the dead on the third day by the
power of God, the Father. Every person capable of
faith is called by God to believe in Jesus as their
Savior, repent of sin in their life, make a public
confession of faith that they are making Jesus their
Lord, and be joined to Christ and His church by
receiving baptism (immersion) in His name. Having made
this response of faith, all sin is forgiven by God's
mercy & grace and we receive the gift of God's Holy
Spirit to live in us and to empower us to live for
Jesus. All those who come to Him in faith may request to
be baptized at any hour (Ephesians 2:1-10 / Titus 3:3-8
/ Acts 16:25-33)
Our beliefs do not stem from a
creed nor do they originate with some ecclesiastical
governing body. We believe that we should speak where
the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is
silent. We have found that this frees us from limiting
traditions passed down by previous generations. Here are
some examples of our focus:
- A desire to be a church
"of Christ". The focus is not an
institution but a relationship with Christ. As His
disciples we follow in the steps of our Master (John
13:12-17).
- A desire to be a caring
family. Because God is our Father we have another
relationship with His children - a family with
brothers and sisters. We strive to observe Jesus'
new commandment - "love one another as I have
loved you." (John 13:34-35). Our unity is more
than a doctrinal concept - it's personal. In our
fragmented society and religious world we commit
ourselves to "seek the unity of the spirit in
the bond of peace." (Eph. 4:3).
- A desire to be
non-denominational. The New Testament church had
those who sought to divide it. Paul reacted,
"Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for
you?" 1 Cor. 1:13. We, therefore, refrain from
religious titles /names which do not find their
origin in the New Testament. We call all believers
to be "Christians only" and seek unity in
essentials, liberty in opinions and in all things
love.
